Last name: Advani

This is a surname of Sindhi (Indian) origins. In conception it dates back several centuries, but specifically to the period of 1936 - 1955 when the Sind formed a separate state in its own right in the continent of India. The surname was originally pure Sindi, but of more recent times some forms have been adopted by followers of Islam, although it remains predominantly Indian and Punjabi. This is great research, but my parents came from Bantva(Bantwa) and our surname comes from the fact that there is a town called Adwana, north of Bantva, and if you lived there then you may come back to you home town and very one will call you Adwani. Similarly, in Karachi there is a popular surname Rangoonwala. This is because their forefathers had businesses in Rangoon, even though they were originally from Bantva.

This is interesting; i didn't know that some Islamic people have the name. I also read about the patronymic surname from advani.co.uk, which gave a similar history of the name.

To G Advany, Yes, advani.co.uk is good too, but it doesn't say about the spelling of Advani as 'Advany'; I haven't found a site for that yet.

I'm not sure where the spelling Advany came from for anyone else but our family changed the spelling from Advani to Advany to distinguish it as a Muslim name. As far as I know Advany is only one family. M I Advany is my father
