Proud to be ZAMORA Family
Origen :Guatemala City
My grandfather was from New Mexico. He had 3 brothers. I believe they lived in Vaughn, NM. I've always felt that my ancestry was confusing - people always asking me why I didn't speak Spanish and if I was Mexican. Recently I did 23andme and it has recently opened a door to the rich history of the Zamora's of New Mexico. I can't wait to learn more. (I was born and raised in Los Angeles BTW)
Most of my family lived in Lincoln, New Mexico. Anybody else? I have visited with my dad and there is a Zamora family cemetery.
My mother and father died young, before I was 19 y.o. My mother was a Zamora, and I had relatives - Lee and Vicki Zamora in Pueblo, CO. I know very little about this side of my family, my mother being an only child. Any info anyone can provide would be appreciated.
Proud to be a Zamora :)
Me and my dad's last name is Zamora, I used to think I was the only one with that last name.
my mom last name is zamora and there really isnt alot of us out there. i wonder if they are my ancestors?
I have visited the beautiful township of Zamora, Spain. The people there are as friendly and interesting as any place I've been. Interestingly enough one of very old surname spelling was Samara where Zamora came from. They also pronounced the "Z" as "Th." When they saw my passport, they immediately became family. We talked and talked with all the locals. I definitely want to go again for more than just a few days. BTW the Food and Famous Tinto wine are just as awesome! A definite destination for any Zamora. My Lineage also comes from the New Mexico Zamoras.
My uncle spelled his name with a S did any one else hear that about their relatives. He was from New Mexico. Rebe
Jewish people write zamora using "S"
There has always been a story in my family about how my grandfather changed our name from Samora to Zamora. I've always thought it might have something to do with how the "z" is pronounced in Spanish.
I've also been told that Zamora is similar to a Jewish surname and has something to do with music.
