This name is something of a puzzle, as either Sevitt or Savott it is very rare and yet is well recorded in London in the 17th Century. The original "English" name holder being married at the church of St. Katherine by the Tower. In 1686, a Mary Sevitt married John Anderson at the Church of St. James, Dukes Place, London, although whether she was related to the original holder we are unable to say. The meaning and origin is believed to be tribal and derives from "Sevi" an ancient tribal varient of Sabine from biblical times. The present spelling of Sevitt or Savott being patronymic meaning "Son of Sev". The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Jeane Seivet. which was dated 1679, (Married) Nicholas Whetfoot, London. during the reign of King Charles II, the Merry Monarch, 1660 - 1685.
